New energy vehicles promote energy-saving optimization of LED headlights, and energy management of L

Under the wave of electrification, the energy consumption characteristics of LED headlights have received more attention from the industry. Unlike fuel vehicles that rely on the engine to drive the generator for power, new energy vehicles rely entirely on the power battery for their electrical energy. The energy consumption of LED headlights, LED taillights, and LED ambient lights directly affects the vehicle's range. Car lamp manufacturers continue to optimize LED light efficiency and control strategies, reducing power consumption while ensuring lighting safety. The energy-saving design of LED lighting systems has become an important component of the vehicle's energy management system.

Traditional halogen light sources have low electro-optical conversion efficiency, and most of the electrical energy is converted into heat, resulting in high power consumption. As a cold light source, LED has higher electro-optical conversion efficiency, and under the same lighting effect, its power consumption is much lower than halogen lamps. This is also the core reason why new energy vehicle models commonly come standard with LED headlights. But as the functions of car lights become increasingly rich, with matrix LED zone lighting, dynamic LED flowing taillights, and multi zone LED cabin atmosphere lights stacked together, if the control strategy is simple, the overall power consumption of the lights will still increase. Many car owners have found that after turning on the headlights and ambient lighting for long-distance winter travel, the vehicle's range will slightly decrease.

Car headlight manufacturers optimize LED lighting energy consumption from multiple directions. Firstly, select high-efficiency automotive grade LED beads to reduce the power consumption of a single bead while meeting the national standard lighting illumination indicators; Secondly, optimize the optical lens and reflective structure to improve light utilization efficiency, reduce light loss, and enhance road brightness without relying on increasing power; Thirdly, dynamically control the LED beads through software to light up as needed. The matrix LED headlights will not always be fully illuminated. After the system recognizes the road conditions, only the areas that need lighting will be illuminated, and the lights in the areas that do not need lighting will be turned off to reduce energy consumption.

The vehicle control strategy will dynamically adjust the LED light output based on the environment and vehicle speed. During the day, there is sufficient light and only low-power LED daytime running lights are turned on; Drive at low speed at night and adjust the illumination range of the LED low beam; Drive at high speed and activate high beam zoning as needed; When the vehicle is parked, it automatically reduces the power of the welcome LED lights or turns off non essential decorative lighting effects to reduce static power consumption. For interactive LED dynamic lighting, it is only enabled for a short period of time in specific scenes and will not run at high power for a long time, reducing battery consumption.

Industry engineers emphasize that energy-saving optimization does not mean lowering lighting safety standards. All LED lighting power consumption adjustment schemes must meet lighting national standards such as GB4599. Safety essential lights such as low beams, brake lights, and turn signals at night must not have their brightness or response speed reduced for energy-saving purposes. During the research and development phase, manufacturers will conduct LED light energy consumption tests in high and low temperature environments, simulating the performance degradation scenario of low-temperature batteries in winter, to ensure that the brightness and response speed of LED beads still meet the standards after turning on the lights in low-temperature environments.

Looking solely at power, LED headlights do not account for a high proportion of overall vehicle electricity consumption, but for small pure electric vehicles, refined energy consumption management still has practical significance. In addition to external LED headlights, multiple LED ambient lights are stacked on the interior door panels, instruments, footrests, etc., and the overall power consumption cannot be ignored. When developing interior and exterior LED lighting solutions, car lighting companies unify power consumption and adopt a zoning brightness automatic adjustment scheme.

In the future, LED lighting systems will be deeply integrated with vehicle energy domain controllers. When the vehicle is in low battery mode, the vehicle controller will prioritize the protection of necessary safety lights such as headlights and brake LED lights, and appropriately weaken the dynamic lighting effect of decorative LED lights. The development of the automotive LED lighting industry is no longer just about competing for brightness and appearance lighting effects. Balancing safety, energy efficiency, and reliability has become the core consideration in the development of LED car lighting products. Automobile companies and LED headlight suppliers will continue to explore energy-saving potential, optimize energy consumption performance on the basis of ensuring nighttime driving safety, and match the long-term development needs of new energy vehicles.
